The 10 Minute Cleaning Cupboard Audit: How Many Bottles Do You Really Own?
Share
Most homes own far more cleaning bottles than they use. A 10 minute audit shows you what you have, what overlaps and what can go, so you buy less and waste less.
What you need
A bag, a marker and a clear counter. Pull everything out from under the sink and from the bathroom shelf.
Step 1: Count and group
Put products in groups by job: laundry, floors, bathroom, kitchen, surfaces, specialty. Write the count on a sticky note.
Step 2: Find the overlaps
Three half-used floor cleaners? Two glass sprays? Choose the one you like and use up the rest before buying again.
Step 3: Check for the dud
Anything with a leak, a clogged nozzle or a smell you dislike is a product you will avoid using. Be honest about that.
Step 4: Check how you use it
- Do you over-pour? Pre-measured formats fix this.
- Do you avoid a product because it is heavy or smells harsh?
- Does it look good enough to leave out? If not, it will stay hidden and unused.
Step 5: Rebuild a short list
Most homes can run on a short list: laundry, a surface spray, a floor cleaner, a stain remover. See the minimalist cleaning cupboard for a starter list.
How to dispose responsibly
Use up what you can. Check your local recycling rules for empty plastic bottles. Do not pour large amounts of leftover cleaner down the drain.
