Diwali Safai, Made Easier: A Room by Room Deep Clean Checklist
Share
Diwali safai is one of India's biggest cleaning traditions, and it goes better when you spread it across a week. Here is a room by room checklist, plus a simple schedule so you are done before guests arrive.
Why we clean before Diwali
Cleaning the home before Diwali is a long tradition in many Indian households, linked to welcoming the festival with a fresh, bright space. Whatever your reason, a clean home feels good to celebrate in.
The one week plan
- Day 1: Declutter. Donate, discard, sort. No cleaning yet.
- Day 2: Curtains, bedding, cushion covers. Laundry day. Use laundry sheets to skip the measuring, and spot-treat marks with the Instant Stain Remover Spray.
- Day 3: Kitchen. Cabinet fronts, shelves, appliances and counters.
- Day 4: Bathrooms. Tiles, fixtures, mirrors and shelves.
- Day 5: Living room. Dust top to bottom, wipe surfaces, clean windows and frames.
- Day 6: Bedrooms and balcony.
- Day 7: Floors. Do floors last so nothing gets dirty again. A floor cleaner sheet finish keeps them fresh without sticky residue.
Top to bottom, always
Dust ceilings and fans first, then shelves, then surfaces, then floors. Gravity does the rest.
Surfaces
Use the Multi-Purpose Cleaner on tables, counters and sills. Test a small spot first on delicate or polished surfaces.
Make it a family activity
Give each person a room and a playlist. A shared job with music is faster, and more fun.
Finishing touch
Fresh flowers, lamps and a light scent. Order early if you want new products delivered in time, as shipping takes a few days. Read our layered cleaning routine for more ideas.
