Analysts value India's household cleaners market at roughly USD 14 billion in 2026, with laundry making up about 60 percent of it. Forecasts disagree on how fast it will grow, but they all point the same way: up.
How big is the market?
According to market research firm IMARC, India's household cleaners market grew from USD 11.91 billion in 2025 to an estimated USD 14.04 billion in 2026, and is projected to reach USD 39.84 billion by 2034, a compound growth rate of 13.93 percent (IMARC). The same report puts an interim estimate of about USD 22.86 billion for 2030.
Where the money is
- Laundry: 60.7 percent of the market in 2025 (fabric detergents, powders, liquids, softeners and stain removers).
- Dishwashing: 12.4 percent.
- Regions: North India holds 45.2 percent of the regional share.
IMARC attributes growth to more washing machines, premium fabric care, urban household formation and e-commerce, with rising interest in specialised and eco-friendly formulations.
A caution on the numbers
Market reports do not agree. A different firm, Fact.MR, projects India growing at about 6.1 percent a year through 2035 within a global household cleaners market of USD 40.7 billion in 2025 (Fact.MR). Different definitions of the market and different base years produce very different curves. Treat any single forecast as a direction, not a promise.
What this means for new brands and shoppers
- Laundry is the centre of gravity. It is the biggest slice and the most daily habit, which is why we started with laundry sheets.
- Convenience is a growth driver. Pre-measured, no-mess formats fit busy urban households.
- Eco and plant based products are growing. Globally, Mordor Intelligence reports natural and organic cleaners growing about 6.4 percent a year, faster than the overall market, while synthetic formulas still hold the large majority (Mordor Intelligence).
